Some intresting materuial . But the article is a little bit misleading. It doesn't say what Bruce was looking for in Boxing.

If we look at the boxers he liked we find Jack dempsey and jim Driscoll. These are two boxers that were famous for their vertical fist puncnhing.

Saga of the fist and Edwin Haislet Boxing Boob or other books I have in my own library. I have also seen pictures of the original writing in Bruce Lee's own boxing books.

If we look at many JKD practitioners today they have simply added Boxing to their JKD arsenal. What Bruce Lee was doing was reseraching Boxing and see what he could use in his JKD..

Take ethe quote "Lead Jab in JKd is a feeler..." If we look at JKD today they use the JKD feeler jab with horizontal fist, just like Boxing. My oppinion is that JKD Lead Staright is a Power Punch and JKD Jab is a feeler, but they are both made from On Guard, with JKD footwork, JKD alignment and a vertical JKD fist..

Boxing is a big part of JKD, but Boxing is not JKD, that is how I look at this issue.

That´s what I also thought afte I´ve read this article. So the JKD-Punch is more a lunge through the opponent, not a feeler. Am I right in this matter?

If you ask my oppinion I would say that you are correct. The JKd Straight lead is a punch that involves Footwork, Three point landing, alignment to get maximun power into the punch.

A Jab according to me would still use fottwork and guided by the On Guard becuase it is natural to move like this if you have trained Jun fan7TWJKD for a long time.

The confusion is when some people have added a whipping Jab, a speeed jab and other Boxing Jabs to JKD, saying that sometimes you punch with the arm only, somethimes tyou put more shoulder and hip into it etc..

I( would say that even if I use the Jasb as a feeler I would still regulate my balance and distance with Footwork . I might not use as much alignment since I am only "feeling" the opponent, maybe using ther jab as a feint, ABD etc. But if I do decide to take action I would always involve all aspects of a JKD punch, On Guard, Footwork, three point landing, alignmenmt/postures in relating Force.
