Serge: Is fight without rules a sport or a business for you?
Fedor Emelyanenko: I think, I earn my money by sport. But sport and business are the same for me.
Artem: As I know mass scuffles have become popular in Russia recently, what do you think of the idea of holding these fights on the ring; for example ten pugilists are against ten. In your opinion, was it visual or spindly? What kinds of “gladiator’s” entertainments can receive the development in our country?
F.E.: Frankly speaking, I wasn’t plunged deep in thought. Such fights, as I realize, happen in the street, no one turned it into sport. I’m interested in fighting, but this kind of sport isn’t so popular in our country. I mean, definite sport men are came untwisted. It’s a pity, but many fighters, who take place at the world line, are moved aside. The fighters of gladiators are only possible at the amateur line. But it’s a great risk: the extent of traumatism is very high.
Roman: How old were you, when you won a Master of sports in self-defense.
F.E.: I won the Master of sports very late, as I consider. It depended on situation: before my army I contended not bad, but as for judo and self-defense, I was condemned. When I was twenty I became the Master of sports in judo and self-defense.
Ilya: Fedor, I’d like to know about weight- lifting exercises, which you use during coaching’s.
F.E.: I paid a lot of attention to “hard ware.” But for the last 4 years, wrestling was a substitute for weight-lifting exercises, I mean, I combat, I am good at boxing, kick-boxing: every day I pull myself up and swing my press.
Ilya: Your useful tips for young beginners.
F.E.: Now days’, fighting’s become very universal kind of sport. You only must fight and be master of your own technique.
Tina: What is your relatives’ attitude to such kind of sport “fights without rules” are for nervous people, and also not for observants, in first turn not for women. I’m sorry, but if my husband and my son trained I would have a heart-attack or nervous disease.
F.E.: Of course, they feel it keenly. I made a great work. I began to take part from a “mild” version, and riches “a cruel version” the most prestige version “Pride”. But if my daughter watches me on TV, she said: “This is my father”.

The main problem of it, that Americans want to see their people like winners,- I mean the problem of the nationalism.
Olga: What do you think of girls who take part in fight? Is your wife a sport woman?
F.E.: No, she isn’t a sport woman, I think, a girl must be a feminine, and goes in for gymnastics, dance and shaping. But the boy must go in for single combat to defend the honors and stand up for him.
Olga: If your daughter comes home with a jaded lip and say: I had a fight in the street. What will be your reaction?
F.E.: My reaction?! I hope, it won’t happen! But if it comes true, and the boy will be offender, he gets his deserts.
Nexa: Tell us, about your coaching’s. Do you pay attention to psychological training or do you rely on your good physical shape?
F.E.: Of course, I pay a great attention to emotional training; I mean from fighting to fighting, from competition to competition, I try to make better. Certainly, I try to improve the technique of fighting, from the point of physical shape; I try to be a well-prepared on the ring.
Inna: What would you advise for teenagers, who choose their future profession?
F.E.: I think, teenagers must “look for” themselves; they haven’t to cry to copy other people. Everyone must find their place in life can be it sport or something else, it’s important to find training for sole and try to do it good.
Nata: How many years have you been studying at the University?
F.E.: I only finished the first course.
Olesia: Do you have in your plans of training work, the idea of talking young people away street. (I think sport is better that strong drinks and drugs).
F.E.: As for me I try to do all things how to attract young people to the sport-gyms, but I haven’t enough time for that. Our state government, director of big factories doesn’t understand their role; must it be supporting or propaganda? I consider, teenagers must know more about leading sports men of town. There are a lot of fine boxers and track and field athletes in our town. We have to show and tell about it and then children will go to the gyms.
Mitya: Do sports men of other countries have any peculiarities of fighting?
F.E.: Sure, they have, Brasilia ’s are the strongest nation of all. Their technique is the best. “The fighting without rules” is very popular in this country.
Marina : I have 3 questions for you. 1. How can you remove all doubts when you know that your rival is stronger than you?
F.E.: I don’t think who is stronger or weaker. Simply speaking I pay a lot of attention to every fighting, make up my mind and do my business. Now days everyone wants to take champion belt away, all have desire to win, that’s why I have fights with the best sports men.
Marina : 2. How don’t you overstep the bounds of cruelty?
F.E.: You know, sports men have their own ethics. First of all, the respect to the rival and to the people. One of my principles is to be a man (a person) cruelty on the ring is peculiar to Americans. I’m not for cruelty. I always try to behave very honesty.
Marina : 3. For what do you love your wife?
F.E.: I don’t know, how to explain, for what we can love a person. I am glad that my wife is near. We made up friends 9 years ago, we married 4 years. Oksana is understanding person. Sometimes, it’s not very easy to be with me, but I know, I can always rely and respect her.
Maks: Fedor, how do you think, people, your spectators take “fighting without rules” for sport or it’s in fashion to be cruel, rude, and to earn money, selling “a beautiful fight”. As for me, cruelty and rudeness attract spectators. To my opinion, it’s cult of violence and cruelty. Once the name of it attracts the spectator by the thought of something, what isn’t a sport but “bloody sight”, where you can get a portion of adrenalin, if two fighters “spreader” each other over the wall.

Irene: As I know, your young brother goes in for self-defense. How do you see him in proper perspective?
F.E.: His chances are not bad; this year he became the Russia champion in self-defense at present, he is going to take part in World championship, in November in Greece . I also train him for fights without rules. To my opinion, he is ready to make his debut.
Julia: Good day, Fedor, from my childhood, I entertain a feeling of sympathy to men who go in for fighting arts. I’m eager to know, what does the man feel, winning on the ring?
F.E.: When I get a victory, the sole is full of joy, and may be pride for the country, for people who trained me, for my relatives, and a little bit for myself and of course, for sometime my tension falls down, I can breathe with a slight, and again a men preparation for fighting.
Natasha: You’ve been to many countries of the world, where you like to stay longer but not forever?
F.E.: I have not been to all countries. Where did I like? In Japan . I like their culture. People respect each other and you know, everything is made for people. There are a lot of good-equipped gyms. All those who so desire comes here: from 6 up to old age. It’s pleasant to see young children near with old grandmothers and grandfather. I mean a healthy nation.
Sveta: With whom have you had fighting’s on the ring?
F.E.: The most famous sports man is Antonio Rodrige Nagiero. He is the former world champion, in the version “Pride”. I won a belt. He considered being the strongest fighter of planet, and he was distinguished from Brazilian command. The fighting with him was very hard. I thought only about champion title, and I must win it. This victory is the greatest my success for today.
Oleg: What is your mood, to the next fighting?
F.E.: I train to every fighting, and try to do it on the best level: I stand all maximum sport loads, try to be in a good shape.
Igor: Do you watch video-films about the technique of others sports men?
F.E.: You know, I have only to look once at the rival in any fighting to understand his shape, to find out his weak and strong positions, after that I work out my technique.
Irene: Who gives the punch first?
F.E.: It depends on situation. Someone begins the attack at once, someone waits fir, keeps the distance. Therefore it is necessary to operate depending on a situation. Fights, it is possible to tell, are like chess play. Everyone draws up his technique.
