In 2002 before the general died in his land of Birth (North Korea) there was
only one unified ITF. In the 1980's General Choi opened dialogue with North
Korea which upset many people (commy hating westerners) The general knew he
had little time left to realize his dream of spreading TKD. He needed lots
of good new ITF instructors. North Korea recruited its best athletes in
Gymnastics, Basketball, and other Martial Arts and put them through
intensive military TKD programmes.
In a very short period North Korea was dominant and still is and the ITF
received some funding from the North Korean Government as well as support
through the IOC members.
Prior to the generals death, in Italy Master Choi Ung Hwa (son of the general) was
voted to be the next president. However members within the ITF management
had other ideas and plotted to have him expelled from ITF. The General
knowing this as he was dying stated that he wanted to have Mr Chang Ung IOC
member to North Korea and former National Basketball player to be the
president. He was known internationally, was a good organisor and had the
backing from the Korean Governement as well as Olympic Organisation Member.
All of the Grandmasters agreed to this.
Unfortunately some power hungry members wanted otherwise (the same ones who
expelled the Generals Son) They claimed that the decision was illegal but it
was a dying mans last wish.
So we have three ITF's
Master Choi Ung Hwa who claims he was voted President. (Dominant only in
Canada) http://www.itf-admin.com/
Mr Chang Ung the Generals Choice (by far the biggest) http://www.itftkd.org/
Master Tran Quan (Dominant only in Europe) http://www.tkd-itf.org
Most of the great Grand Masters and North Koreans are in the ITF general Choi wanted. GM Rhee Ki Ha, Park Jung Soo, Wee Ming and many more.
At the moment there are legal battles going on all over the place. This
should only concern those who are involved. As far as training goes all have
very good instructors and best intentions.
Greed, Power and Money are human weaknesses.
wichtig: Ich kritisiere keine schule.
