Hung Kuen hegemony in the world

Master Chiu Chi Ling, contemporary master of Hung Gar, inherited Grandmaster Wong Fei Hung's teachings Today he is devoted to diffuse Hung Kuen in the world.Chiu Chi Ling is very well known in USA for what concerns WuShu. Only Xiao Long (known as Bruce Lee) is better known than him. Master Chiu Chi Ling spread passionately Chinese WuShu in the world. Wushu has become famous in the U.S. thanks to action films and specialized magazines. Bruce Lee was obviously the first who brought Wushu out of China. Thanks to him, Chinese Martial Arts and Japanese have now the same importance.Chiu Chi Ling gave, from the very beginnings, has handed down to various pupils, in different nations all over the world, his personal experiences and knowledges. Touring over the has grown Chiu Chi Ling's fame world widely. In his last journey he was hosted in many parties in his honour. He is a very appreciated master, for both his knowledges and his great teaching abilities.

Sitaigung Lam Sai Wing

From the 1960's and 1980's, Master Chiu Chi Ling began to spread Wushu everywhere: he was often engaged as Hung Kuen teacher in action films, but he preferred training himself professionally. He practiced Hung Kuen under his father's guidance, Grandmaster Chiu Kao. Chiu Kao has been a Grandmaster Lam Sai Wing's pupil, one of the best Wong Fei Hung followers. In the 70's, Chiu Chi Ling became in charge of his father's school. Chiu Kao also taught him, how to cure with the ancient Chinese Medicine. As Wong Fei Hung third generation pupil, Chiu Chi Ling received from the Fatshan's (or Foshan) government the task to organize competitions and study trips both in SiuLam Temple of Fukien, and in the Wong Fei Hung Museum. These tasks will make Grandmaster Wong Fei Hung fame last throughout the centuries.

How to teach Hung Kuen

Today, Hung Kuen elements are taught to the pupils in a very different way from the past. As Master Chiu Chi Ling says: in the past, the basic positions were studied at least for three years, today instead students want to learn more quickly. We have to find an intermediate way between the old teachings and the new methods, always keeping some fundamental basis.

Throwing back in the world

In the 70's, Chiu Chi Ling was an excellent element of Hong Kong's action movies. He worked with famous actors, as for example Jackie Chan. These films offered him the chance to disclose Kung Fu in the world, with his "International Chiu Chi Ling Hung Ga Kung Fu Association".

Wong Fei Hung

Today, there are many students all over the world descending from Grandmaster Wong Fei Hung. He was born in Naam Hoi in 1847 and learnt Hung Kuen from his father, Wong Kay Ying. At the age of 13 year, a big Hung Kuen practician, Lam Fok Sing, pupil of Tit Kiu Sam contacted him.

Tit Kiu Sam, together with Wong Kay Ying, was one of the "Ten tigers of the Kwantung", both descendants of Hung Hei Gwoon. In China, many movies were dedicated to Wong Fei Hung, increasing his reputation: he was an expert of traditional Chinese Medicine and treated many people in his gymnasium/clinic Bochilam.

He is now days remembered as a martial artist, thanks to the past events that regard him: for example, in Hong Kong he fought against a foreigner's big dog. Wong Fei Hung killed the dog by using only his martial art. This was just one of the many events used as plots in Chinese movies.

The best Wong Fei Hung pupil at Hong Kong was certainly Lam Sai Wing, who disclosed Hung Kuen, teaching it to many followers, and furthermore by printing many books. Forms like Foo Hok Seung Ying Kuen, Gung Ji Fok Foo Kuen and Tit Sin Kuen can still be found in these texts, which are considered as this discipline's masterpiece.Besides his remarkable ability in the WuShu, Wong Fei Hung was also very famous for his passionate interpretation in his lion dance, in which he expressed everything.

Five anchient styles

In Kwantung many Kung Fu styles are practised but only Hung, Li, Cohi, Lau e Mok are considered as the most ancient, for their descendance from SiuLam. These are the names of the five families which inherited the Shaolin Southern boxing Temple.During the past, we can find Hung boxing both in northern and southern style, but Wong Fei Hung practiced the southern one, after renames Hung Ga Kuen. Chiu Chi Ling is today dedicating his life to diffuse it world wide. The southern Hung Kuen or Naam Pai Hung Kuen had his origin in the southern Shaolin Temple, during the Ming dynasty, before the coming of Qing. It evolved in Honan, Fukien and Kwantung: the last one was spread and elaborated by Hung Hei Gwoon.

The southern Hung Kuen requires ability both in hard techniques, that are purely martial, and in soft techniques, for a correct body balance. All these elements are included in the Tao (forms) deriving from the five animals and five elements. They contain a great deal of techniques: in Hung Kuen are important Foo Hok Seung Ying Kuen, Gung Ji Fok Foo Kuen and Tit Sin Kuen, which linked with the study of traditional weapons (broadsword, sword and spear). Weapons are useful to become stronger. For the study of Hung Kuen it is important having good basis, built on stable positions and quick movements. These are called Tit Kiu Sin Ma, linked with the "bridge" techniques. The first step in studying Hung Kuen, is the learning of the traditional boxing techniques, weapons' use, the external and internal techniques (Ying), using short or long-range, but above all it is necessary learning forms (Tao) perfectly.

Studying Hung Kuen techniques doesn't only mean using purely boxing techniques, but also means understanding huge internal teaching of this style. It's an open world, with its own principles, life style, and which lives and breathes most of all of concentration.Growing up is the result of years of studies and exercise.
