Von JP:
Here's footage from an old tv show we had in Brazil called "Passando a Guarda" which mean Passing the Guard in Portuguese. In this episode from 1999 they show footage from the Rio State BJJ Championships won by Saulo Ribeiro and Vitor Shaolin.
They also have a pioneer report in the city of Curitiba, where this muay thai academy called Chute Boxe was starting to make champions in MMA. You will see Wanderlei Silva, Anderson Silva and Pele before the fame. The first report though is about Pitbulls - at the time there was a huge discussion in the media about whether or not the dogs should be banned. In Brazil the BJJ community traditionally used pitbulls as the symbol of Jiu-Jitsu, hence the dogs in a fight show.
