Dear Sacha
Thank you for contacting Wingate institute, Israel national sport institution.
Wingate Institute is subordinated to the Israeli Ministry of Sport.
In order to be able to teach KM in Israel, one must pass a full qualification which consist of 265 academic hours in an authorized Israeli institution and pass all practical and theoretical examinations:
Anatomy 30 hours
Physiology 30 hours
Coaching Sciences 15 hours
Psychology 15 hours
Martial arts teaching and methodology 117 hours
Internship 30 hours
First aid and revival 28 hours
This qualification is known in Israel as "Instructor for basic martial arts".
Each accredited course must receive written licences from the Israeli ministry of sport, signed by the sport minister, licence is specific for the location of the course, All lectures must be personally approved as teachers by the ministry of sport for this specific qualification and the field they are teaching (Usually if one teaches martial arts he is not approved to teach anatomy, unless he holds a degree in physiotherapy).
In some cases, students who have studied in academic accredited institutions abroad ( accredited universities or colleges, originated outside of Israel), may submit their record of studies and official diploma for evaluation in a special committee, summoned by the Israeli Sport Authority. If the volume and content of such studies are similar to the Israeli law requirements, the committee may approve the foreign certificate as valid in Israel. (this is done usually by new immigrants).
Wingate Institute conducts short practical qualifications for foreign students, this qualifications includes a part of the 117 hours of Martial arts teaching and methodology, and may grant "exempt" from these studies when one wish to complete the full Israeli certificate.
All foreign students who apply for this program must sign the following declaration:
"I am aware that according to the Israeli law, instructors who wish to teach in Israel are required to complete additional studies which are being held at Wingate Institute in Israel (taught only in Hebrew).
Without derogating from the above, I am aware that Wingate will recognize 60 academic hours if I registered to a full Israeli qualification -towards a Krav Maga instructors certification, provided, however, that (1) I graduated from the Course successfully, and was entitled to receive an instructor or a senior instructor certificate; and (2) if I registered to the Israeli full qualification course no latter than 5 years form the Course."
As for your question, there is a legal entity in Israel registered as
"Zinman College for Physical Education and Sport Sciences at the Wingate Institute"
This company resides on Wingate Institute territory, but is an independent entity subordinated to the Israeli Ministry of Education.
I hope I could help.
Sincerely,
Dr. Guy Mor
