    Martial arts class content
Introduction to and theory of the Internal Martial Arts: In the beginning and throughout the seminar, Guo Shilei will explain his understanding of the theory and principles of the Internal Martial Arts, covering questions such as: What are Internal Martial Arts (objective, strategy, training methods)? What are common misunderstandings in the Internal Martial Arts (basic training and power generation)? What is the basic training system of the Internal Arts? Why is basic training so essential? How can we compare Chinese Internal Marts Arts and other contemporary martial arts?

Basic training and attribute building: This part will cover a large part of the seminar and teach specific methods of basic training (jiben gong 基本功). They build the physical attributes and habits necessary for learning more advanced methods in Taiji Quan, Bagua Zhang and Xingyi Quan. These exercises “open” joints, strengthen tendons and ligaments, build specific muscles and transform habits of movement. They “integrate” the body so that its parts operate in coordination and “whole body” force can be projected outwards. Jiben Gong nurtures lightness of movement and a high degree of mobility, while maintaining an integrated and highly stable structure.

Jiben Gong exercises have inherent martial applications. However, they are also greatly beneficial for maintaining a strong physical condition and preventing typical modern ailments caused by wrong postures, stiff joints and weak muscles. The taught exercises cover static stances (zhan zhuang 站桩), mobile stances (huo zhuang 活桩) and stepping methods (bufa 步法).

Xingyi Quan: This part will teach the Xingyi Quan Zashi Chui 杂式锤 (Multiple Hammer) Routine and its application. This routine deepens many of the body mechanics and principles taught in basic training. Xingyi Quan was developed from battlefield techniques—in particular spear methods—and emphasizes high mobility, simple and straightforward techniques, as well as simultaneous defense and attack.

    Qigong class content
Daoist Eight-Section Warrior Qigong (Dao jia babu jingang gong 道家八部金刚功): The Eight-Section Warrior Qigong is a traditional Daoist method of health preservation. It is based on the Daoist “natural order of things” (自然规律) and integrates the “Yin-Yang, Five Elements” (阴阳五行) theory of Chinese Medicine. Through eight sections of firm internal energy exercises, it frees up the internal meridians and joints, and helps to adjust and realign the spine, so that the nervous system functions efficiently. The exercise also supports the function of the inner organs and increases overall well-being and health. The method is particularly beneficial individuals with gastrointestinal problems, high blood pressure or hyperlipidemia. Since each set of exercises is targeted, stretching specific parts of the human body and the meridians, it also has significant effects on bone and muscle diseases such as neck arthritis, lumbar spondylosis or numbness of legs and feet.
