Blunt Trauma Weapons
Whatever weapon you train, target training should be a huge part of it.
Unfortunately when training with flexible weapons like the flail, Manriki Gusari, Nunchaku, Three Sectional Staff, Meteor Hammer, and so on, the different arts have the tendency to neglect that part inside their training.
The focus is on performance, resulting in lighter weapons and spectacular movement to impress the audience.
Those of us who have fought with flexible weapons know that the reality is much, much different.
Always keep in mind:
- All kind of flexible weapons will recoil. So you have to swing through (I did a IGTV clip in regards of that matter
- You have to know where to attack. All areas where bones are not covered by thick layers of flesh are good to go. Skull in general, chest area, elbows, knees, shoulders,...
- After you have scored, never leave your weapon out there. Always bring it back under control. Being ready to attack again.
Last and for sure not least, always check with your local laws what kind of flexible tool is good to take along as an EDC item.
