KING LEE

Everybody, or almost everybody, will be kung-fu fighting at a sports club in suburban Canberra next weekend, when never-before-screened footage of the late great martial arts movie star Bruce Lee is shown. The documentary maker and martial arts enthusiast Walt Missingham came across the footage during research for his Bruce Lee trilogy.

"I think Bruce Lee falls into the same category as Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. People have a hard job dealing with the fact that they were mortal, so they like to keep [the memory of] them rolling along." He declined to reveal the source of the rare footage, saying some people who had taken film from movie sets were superstitious about what might happen if they were found out. The film to be shown includes out-takes from Game Of Death, which he of the yellow tracksuit was filming when he died, and shots from Enter The Dragon. It will be screened on February 17 in between action at the Australian Kung Fu championships at the Vikings Club in Erindale from 10am. See Australian Kung-Fu (Wu-Shu) Federation and vikingsclubs.com.au.
