Ich weiß, die Hater sind nicht weit, aber trotzdem, hier ein netter, differenzierter Erfahrungsbericht aus den USA, vom Training mit Vladimir Vasiliev:
Here's my experience with Systema and Vlad.
My background;
5 years with Kali DeLeon
Purple Belt in BJJ
I went to Vlad's in Thornhill. I purchased the two day pass everyone has to purchase with them.
Class 1- Went to a day class. Mixed students. A lot of females. A lot of "out of towners". A few out of shape russians and one old man that was literally 7 feet tall and almost broke my neck on a failed move. Anyyways didn't see much from the students. 1 or 2 were amazing the others seemed more intrested in playing Rambo than training. Then we went to knife work. Didn't get most of it but some was amazing.
Then comes free "sparring". Vlad wants to spar with me knife in hand. He does no feeling out and doesn't care about my size (6'1 juicer- 260+). His stance is like Chuck Lidell. Low hands, face exposed, cold russian blue eyes and always, always smiling. He looks liek a smaller Amex Emielienko but he's not a big man. Soft man to be honest.
Anyways we do the knife fighting. He's bare handed. I am an experienced Kali DeLeon student and fast for my size and went at him with intention to catch him. No pussy fucking around.
I didn't touch him. Not only that he almost broke my leg a few times but stops when it's about the break with these fucked up russian sweeps of some shit. He uses a small number of defenses but really you don't know what's going on. Every time you come n for an attack you just feel a millions punches and sweeps and what not.
He is a purely defensive fighter and was unable to disarm me but i went onthe defese so you had two guys on defense.The fact that he repleled a trained Kali fighter is impressive in itself. I would hate/love ot see him with a knife though which he didn't really do. To say Vlad is not an accomlished boxer is false. He's obvioulsy boxed before and he knows the ground. In fact he's probably got a lot of Smabo and he attacks the legs like crazy but with weird fucked up things. He is a dangerous man. I will give him that and his punches hurt. I don't really know how much he was going at as his demenour just doesn't change.
Next class was a night class- Lots of huge mofo russians. I mean James Bond type russians. Some cold as hel, some very friendly but I felt out of place. Lots of russian speaking. One guy threw me in a judo throw which pissed me off so I took him down and easily chocked him out and vlad stopped us as we got a bit heated. His students range from extremely technical to flat out shit (out of towners). The more combat fatigue they wore the worst they were. I found his best students were russians who obviouly cross rained. The nigt class was hard core though. No pussy footing around. In fact Vlad had a bull whip and would whip people with it and it would snap and had to hurt.
Anyways: Did I join? No. Not for me. It's a weird little system that requires a complete open mind and a lot of trust.
Will it work on the streets? No doubt about it.I would say 25% is bullshit and moves that they don't use and they will tell you flat out. It's a system by the way. You learn basics and go from there. You need to really have an open mind. But the guys who get it are hard to 'touch" or punch and don't think all their "work" is slow.You can go fast at your own caution. And don't go fast with Vlad . He almost broke me neck with a standing neck crank that popped 6-7 times like he was a chiropractor.
And to those who say it's an offensive art that "provokes knife fights"- wrong. In only 2 classes I hear Vlad state numerous times- " I teach you to survive a fight, not win it".It's a street system where you avoid trouble if you can and he says so himself.
Anyways I also trained late ron with his affliate school Peter in Danforth. Peter is awesome and he's one of teh best teachers you can have.
Systems isn't and never will be for me but if you are in toronto check vlad or peter out. They will spar with you. Don't worry about that. And you can try to stab either one. You won't though.
